Wood Rot Replacement in Charleston, SC Home
Challenge
David M.'s picturesque home in Charleston, SC had many problems with its wooden frame and crawl space, but Cantey Foundation Specialists rose to the challenge. System Design Specialist Grayson Forehand visited David's home in September shortly after the historic rainfall and flood that hit the Carolinas. After inspecting the home, Grayson came to the conclusion that the crawlspace, family room, and two hallways needed complete renovation. Because of perpetual exposure to moist conditions and other factors, David's wooden framework was rotted through and through creating a dangerous home environment.
Solution
Shortly after diagnosing the problem, Cantey Foundation Specialists sent in the production crew which consisted of Foreman Matt Garcia and crew members Jordan P. and Jason S. The first solution was to get rid of all the rotted wood, replace structural wooden frame joists, and rebuild the subfloor in two hallways and the family room. Secondly, the production crew removed old crawlspace jacks and installed 5 of our SmartJacks, which supports and stabilizes the floor. Next, the production crew moved to the 8 inch tall crawlspace. Matt, Jordan, and Jason prepared the crawlspace for encapsulation by draining all water, fogging any remaining exposed areas with a mold treatment, and installing a sump pump system with a remote floor remote in case of future extreme floods. Lastly, they completely encapsulated the crawlspace and replaced the crawlspace access door. With the finished product, David now has a completely stable home with brand new floors and a clean, dry crawlspace.
