This homeowner had issues with sagging and squeaking floors. When we looked in the crawl space it was obvious these problems were caused by wood rot in the joists. The solution was to replace all the damaged wood. We also suggested encapsulating the crawl space. While the crawl space did have a vapor barrier and a couple small dehumidifiers, these were not adequate enough to keep the moisture out of the crawl space.

Wood Rot

You can see that the wood has some signs of wood rot and organic growth on it. This is caused by having a high moisture content in the crawl space.

Standing Water

Standing water on top of the vapor barrier under the crawlspace. This is a great example of why just putting down some plastic in your crawl space is not the best option to deal with moisture.
