Foundation Education of the Week: Tilting Foundation Walls
When talking about foundation issues, it is important to address the ground or the soil that surrounds your foundation. Soil plays a significant role in many homeowners’ foundation problems and it is important to understand its impact on your home.
Soil is the Root of Tilting Foundation Walls
For example, when you find your foundation’s walls are tilting, the issue is usually a result of pressure differences caused by problems with the soil. Examples of soil problems are frost, too much moisture, or poor grading techniques.
Your foundation walls will begin to tilt when the pressure from the earth around your foundation is higher than the walls themselves. A sign that this is about to happen is when you begin to see cracks in your foundation walls.
Luckily tilting walls are an easy fix! We use what is called our Geo Lock wall anchoring system. In a nutshell, the idea is to counteract pressure differences and stabilize the wall so it straightens out. Next, we fix the issues that caused the foundation to tilt in the first place, and as a result you are left with a foundation that's as good as new!
