Push Piers, PolyLEVEL, Crawlspace Insulation, and Drainage Solutions All for a Columbia Home
Challenge
After the South Carolina floods of October and November of 2015, Steve C. called Cantey Foundation Specialists to find solutions for the many problems with his home and guest house. His home's foundation was settling into the soil, which caused numerous cracks and gaps in the exterior walls. His crawlspace also had water damage, which could cause numerous health problems if not treated correctly and in a timely manner. Steve's guest house, which was kept for any family that was attending USC at the time, had flooding and settling problems as well. Cantey was ready to step up to this homeowner's challenging concerns and find the correct solution to help Steve.
Solution
System Design Specialist Greg Sharp inspected Steve's home and suggested the following strategic plan, which was later accomplished.
First, Production Crew Foreman TJ Harden and Production Crew Member Ryan McPherson attended to the guest house's settlement issues. Because the guest house was built upon concrete slabs, TJ and Ryan were able to lift, level, stabilize, and prevent further settlement by using the patented PolyLEVEL process. By injecting the polymer material underneath the concrete slabs, the guest house no longer had foundation problems! The next step for the guest house was to fix the exterior drainage problem. Foreman Sixto Lopez and crew members Mariano and Gary dug a trench around the guest house to drain water away from the building and towards the road. Now that the guest home's problems were fixed, the Cantey team moved on to the main house.
Customer Steve C.'s home had numerous problems including cracked and settling foundation, flooded crawlspace, and unlevel floors. The first step was for Production Crew Foreman Sixto Lopez to install 8 push piers brackets. Using hydraulics, Sixto lifted the home, closed the cracks, and stabilized the home all with the push pier system. Now that the foundation was steadied, Production Crew Foreman Matt Garcia and Production Crew Members Jordan Pierson and Jason Shope attended to the crawlspace problems. First removing old damaged insulation and debris, Matt then installed a SmartJack in place of a damaged beam. This SmartJack leveled and stabilized the floor above the crawlspace. Lastly, Foreman Matt and Crew Members Jordan and Jason added a drainage system and completely encapsulated the crawl space. This ensured that the crawl space would be drier, cleaner, and absent of moisture, wood rot, and critters.
